The Top Hotels near the MTR (Metro) in Hong Kong

If there is one downside to Hong Kong it’s the busy streets and the foot slog it takes to get anywhere. That’s why I wrote this guide to shopping in Hong Kong by MTR. The MTR (aka metro or subway) in Hong Kong is cheap, clean and efficient and I urge using it as much as you can. Along with the odd double-decker bus ride on some routes for the sake of the view.

So, that leads us to where to stay in Hong Kong, and what are the most convenient hotels within steps of an MTR station? There’s nothing better than knowing you can just walk out your door, hop on the MTR and head anywhere you like, and when you come home, a few short steps and you are in the comfort of your room.

For this list, I am only going to include hotels (or great hostels) that are on the door of the MTR station, have great consumer reviews, and offer good value for money. I won’t include 5-star hotels here as I have reviewed the best of those here.

Here are my picks for the top hotels in Hong Kong near the MTR

Fortunate Guest House

It’s located in Chunking Mansions where there are numerous hostels. This is one of the higher rated ones. It’s steps away from Tsim Sha Tsui Station.

Garden Hotel

It’s not a hotel per se, it’s a typical Hong Kong style guest house. It is right near the B2 exit of Prince Edward Station which is also a stop for the E21 Airport Bus.

Mei Mei Motel

Located in Sincere House where there are also several other guesthouses. Mei Mei is the top rated choice. As with all HK guesthouses, the rooms are tiny and basic, but they offer great value. Sincere house is located in the prime Mong Kok shopping area and is a short walk from Mong Kok Station.

 Kam Fu Guesthouse

Clean and near the MTR exit. Great value in the heart of Mong Kok.

Sleep In Hotel

Located within Mirador Mansions where there are numerous hostels. It’s steps away from Tsim Sha Tsui Station.

Hotels in Kowloon near MTR

Metropark Hotel Mongkok

I have stayed here twice and felt satisfied both times. There are several good affordable restaurants around here and it’s steps away from Prince Edward Station, and the E21 Airport bus stop, and you can also catch mainland cross-border coaches from here. The hotel rooms are larger than normal by HK standards. The 4-star hotel has a gym and onsite restaurant.

Le Prabelle Hotel

A four-star hotel with large rooms by HK standards. As per the above, it’s also only steps away from Prince Edward Station, and the E21 Airport bus stop.

M1 Hotel Mong Kok

A short walk from Mong Kok Station and all the markets and shops in the area. It’s 3-star rated and the rooms are large by HK standards.

Inn Hotel Hong Kong

3 Star hotel right at Yau Ma Tei Station. The hotel is modern and the A21 Airport bus stops near here (at exit C of Yau Ma Tei Station)

Prudential Hotel

The four-star hotel is located right at Jordan MTR station. Rooms are large. The hotel also has a swimming pool and gym.

The Kowloon Hotel

The four-star hotel is modern and located right at Tsim Sha Tsui Station. There the large iSquare mall here and Kowloon Park and Kowloon Mosque are a short walk away.

Places to Stay on Hong Kong Island near the MTR

Hostels near MTR

Fuji Hostel

A simple hostel offering great value rooms in this prime shopping area. It is a very short walk away from Causeway Bay MTR Station.

Tian Jin Hostel

Perhaps the best value in HK. It’s a short walk from Causeway Bay MTR Station and is near a bus stop for the A11 Airport Bus.

Hotels on Hong Kong Island near MTR

Homy Hotel Central

The 3-Star hotel is great value and located steps away from Sheung Wan Station.

Brighton Hotel Hong Kong

Four-star hotel located right at Wan Chai Station. Normally this is a bit expensive, but occasionally they have half priced room specials on booking.com so it’s worth listing here.

Ibis North Point

Great value 3-Star – It is a little way away from the action, but if your plan was to spend most your time on HK Island, and even exploring the nature parks such as Shek O, then this might be a great pick. Some rooms have harbor views, the A11 Airport Bus stops near here and North Point Station is at its door. North Point Ferry Pier is a short walk away which takes you over the harbor to Hung Hom where you can catch the MTR and explore Kowloon.
