Hong Kong Entry Restriction and Quarantine Update – 2022

As of April 1, flight bans on travel from Australia, Canada, France, India, Pakistan, the Philippines, the UK, the US, and Nepal are set to be abolished and entry to Hong Kong is (hopefully) set to become much easier. All travelers will have more simplified entry requirements which are believed to be

• Quarantine reduced to 7 days upon a negative test result
• One final PCR test on the 12th day in the city
• Provide results of a recognised PCR test taken within 48 hours
• Be “fully vaccinated” with recognised vaccination record

For the 7-day quarantine, it needs to be done at one of the HK Gov’s Designated Quarantine Hotels, here’s a guide for the latest rates on those options

Currently, if you are coming from Australia, Canada, France, India, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, or have been to one of those countries in the past 14 days, then it’s only possible to enter Hong Kong if you are a HK resident or you are a Foreign Domestic Helper.

If you are an HK resident OR a non-resident coming from another country outside that group, you are required to

• provide a PCR test taken within 48 hours
• be “fully vaccinated” with recognised vaccination record
• undergo 14-day quarantine at a designated hotel along with a booking confirmation for such.

The rules relax slightly if you are coming from Mainland China, Macao or Taiwan

• Provide PCR-based nucleic acid results (no older than 3 days)
• Undergo compulsory quarantine for 7 days at designated places (home, hotel# or other accommodation) plus two tests during that time. If you are unvaccinated, the quarantine time doubles to 14 days.
• On the 12th day get a test from the Community Testing Centre

Hong Kong to Mainland China

If you are traveling onwards from Hong Kong to the Mainland (or Macau) via Shenzhen Bay Port or the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Hong Kong Port you will need to provide a negative result from a recognized institution taken within 48 hours OR undergo a free PCR test before passing. Also, take note of the changed hours for Shenzhen Bay Control Point (SBCP) which are now 10am to 6pm daily (as of 21/03/22) and check the HK Gov website for updates.
